During a survey of fungi associated with Russian olive fruit rot in Northern Iran. a coelomycete fungus with setose pycnidia was isolated from symptomatic fruits. The fungus was identified as Chaetopyrena penicillata based on morphological characteristics and sequence data of ITS and LSU rDNA.
